Story

It is the dry season, watering holes are getting smaller and smaller as they evaporate. The wolves and elk are forced to live in close proximity to each other. A young elk calve feed a wolf and their pack and young wolf cubs, keeping them alive. But, as long as the elk calve is near its mother, it's safe!

Action Call

Do you know how important mother mammals are to their young? Understand this by avoiding the wolves.

Game

Safety

  • Scout playing area for hazards: tripping objects, stinging insects, trash.
  • Players should Pay Attention everyone, not just the Mama Hippo.
  • This a stalking or walking game, not running game.

Mission

Ask everyone circle up. Set up a circle boundary that no one can leave. Say the following instructions:

  • Everyone here are super cute elk claves.
  • Look across the circle at someone who is NOT looking at you. Imagine that person is your mother elk.
  • Now look at someone else who is NOT looking at you. That person is a wolf. They really want to eat you.
  • Your mama hippo can protect you from the wolf, but only if you keep your mama hippo between you and your crocodile.
  • When I say "go", walk DO NOT run wherever you need to within the game area, try to keep your mother elk between you and your wolf.

It will chaotic for a few minutes. Let it go on for a bit, then have everyone circle up to play another round.

Modify

1/2 speed Have everyone play at 1/2 or 1/4 speed of normal movement.
