What is the essence of this game?

Action Call

Compelling questions / challenges to get kids excited to play.

Game

Safety

  • Scout playing area for hazards: tripping objects, stinging insects, trash, and much more.
  • If lining up players on BOTH sides of a trail, or if the trail is NOT very straight: carefully consider each player's Danger Zone (the area where their stick could possibly go when it is thrown) and position and space players out to ensure that no player is in another player's Danger Zone.

Mission

Make your tow-line rabbit (see instructions under "Materials" above).

Choose a playing area that is appropriate for the game: a forested area, with a trail running through, that is large enough to adequately space the players, works well.

Have the players line up along the trail, all players on the same side, each player positioned about 15 feet away from the trail and at least 10 feet away from nearby players. Each player should conceal themselves as best they can.

Have one Guide supervise the players while the other guide takes a position at one end of the trail, along with the tow-line rabbit. This Guide then walks or jogs down the trail, pulling the tow-line rabbit. As the tow-line rabbit approaches each player, they should get into a throwing position and, as the rabbit passes, throw their stick at the rabbit. Each player should keep track of how many times they hit the target.
