Old Harry Old Harry represents the wilderness. Uncontrollable nature. Unpredictable. He is the Lightning Traveler, appearing with storms. During storms, dark winds are brewing. Old Harry travels with the Dark Winds. Old Harry is like the western witch—he’s going to eat the children. In our stories, he might eat you (stop kids from wandering off), or he will teach you how to survive in the wilderness. There are two extremes—kids transcend those extremes. Old Harry has duel nature—two sides of same coin. The weeding out is good for the herd.

Old Harry, big and scary. Wiser children please be-wary.

In the greenwood, shadows tall, listen for the Dark Winds’ call.

Companions hide on Whiskers’ edge. The’r not your friend, if ye’r dead.

When He finds you in the trees, it's too late to beg and plead.

Some claim foe and some claim friend. You'll soon know, in the end.

So if you wander far from home and find yourself all alone,

Remember well the Goat Man's yarn. Repeating from your silly farm.

It won't save the selfish child, but it might help the one who’s wild.

Good Old Harry, he will teach ya’. And then, maybe, he will eat ya’.
